Matthew Dovel |

In Matthew Dovel's
book entitled
My Last Breath, he describes both of his NDEs. Although his book
was classified as "fiction" by his publisher, Matthew's NDE testimony is
true from start to finish. It is thought that the publisher classified it as
"fiction" because of the rather unusual subject matter. But indeed,
according to Matthew Dovel, it is all factual.
Matthew states, "I am compelled to share the story of what happened to me,
the profound changes that took place afterwards, and the message I brought
back with me from the other side. When I tell people of my experiences, they
are completely captivated and are left wanting to know more. This is a
unique story of someone who was in the very presence of Jesus Christ Himself
and what it was like to spend three days in hell. I have found that nothing
I have ever said has been more interesting to people than my story about
dying and what happened afterwards."
Dovel drowned at the age of twelve and temporarily died. During the time he was
unconscious, he remembers a calming and overwhelming feeling of peace coming
over him. Eventually realizing he was in heaven, Dovel, a child with no
religious training, stood in the presence of Jesus and immediately
understood that his work on Earth was not complete.
“I met Jesus Christ when I was twelve during my first near-death experience. He
told me I still had work to do,” says Dovel. “I ignored his will for years
and it was not until I tried to commit suicide that I finally understood
that I could no longer ignore my destiny.”
Returning to Earth after feeling the love and peace that pervades heaven
caused him to spend his teenage years filled with angst and disgust over the
ugliness in the world. He turned to drugs and alcohol to escape the pain of
being separated abruptly from paradise and the Lord. Matthew spent 10 years
addicted to drugs and alcohol. Like many recovering addicts, he had to hit
bottom before deciding to quit using addictive substances. Dovel's unusual
“bottom” was a three-day trip to hell -- literally. Dovel eventually
attempted suicide to spur his reentry into heaven. To his shock, he spent
three days in hell, but returned to tell about the experience. Dovel saw the
horrors and felt the suffering of hell before returning to Earth. When he
awoke, he eagerly gave up his $1000-a-week drug habit cold turkey and has
been clean ever since.
“I really thought that this place, Earth, was hell at one time and that was
all before I spent three days in the real deal,” writes Dovel. “Not the
worst day I have ever had here on Earth could even come close to the
experience I had in hell.”
After having two near-death experiences, Matthew D. Dovel explains that it
is not the near-death experience itself, but what happens afterward that is
so incredible.
After his second near-death experience, Dovel was mysteriously endowed with
an immense amount of knowledge about computers. He now owns a successful
computer consulting business for which he has no training. He also possesses
psychic abilities that allow him to sense when someone is thinking about
him. Sound unbelievable? For Dovel, his psychic ability and conversations
with God are a part of his daily life.
After coming back from the brink of both heaven and hell, Dovel also found a
new understanding of how time works. "We are all time travelers and, believe
it or not, we are all traveling at different speeds." In a vision since his
return from heaven, God explained to Dovel how time works. "The speed peddle
of your life is directly linked to good and evil," Dovel writes.
Comparing heaven and hell, as well as providing his distinctive impressions
of both, Dovel provides readers with insight into the afterlife and what we
can all expect. He hopes his message will encourage people to reach out to
their neighbors and make the world a more loving and peaceful place,
attempting to eliminate people's desire to commit suicide.
Dovel's honest examination of his incredible journey to the brink of both
heaven and hell gives readers an unparalleled perspective into why we are
here and what it all means.
Dovel was born in Seattle, Washington. After extensive moves from one end of
the country to the other, at the age of nine his family moved to Poway,
Calif. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 21 and was
stationed in Alaska. He now resides in Henderson, Nevada. After moving to
Las Vegas in the late eighties, he went back to college and majored in civil
engineering and minored in business administration at the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas. Dovel currently works in the computer industry and as a
writer. He also volunteers his spare time at an alcohol and drug recovery
center in Vegas.

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW, June 30, 2004
Reviewer: Shirley P Johnson, Senior Reviewer
My Last Breath is an intense autobiography by author Matthew D. Dovel. The
author shares with the reader two incidents where he came to the door of
eternity and returned to tell about it. One happened when he was a young
boy, meeting and enjoying the presence of a loving Savior. The second was at
his own hands, and what he experienced at that time was much more detailed
and not as pleasant. I believe this had a great impact on the rest of his
life.
I have read many near-death experience books, and have found the experiences
of what they see and feel can vary greatly, but I always find them
intriguing. This work was no different.
I would have liked to have had a few more details in some areas, but what he
gave was enough to keep my interest, and perhaps look forward to another
book.
I did like the way the author encourages others to think about their life on
earth, giving some important points to follow and warnings to heed. He also
shares with the reader the change in his life since these happens, which
include visions, predictions and healings. Interesting!
If you are curious about the afterlife you will enjoy this book. All in all
an interesting and enlighten read.
"Well Worth Reading," March 25, 2004
Reviewer: A reader
I liked "My Last Breath" because it describes the aftereffects of the near
death experience extremely well. The author focuses on how the experiences
have affected and still do affect his life. Having experienced the NDE
myself, I do understand the issues Mr. Dovel faces.
This book presents valuable insights anyone can use to improve their daily
life. I personally didn't care for the religious references in this book,
but in no way does this affect my rating. To me, the insights presented are
more important than my opinions on religion. My Last Breath is well worth
reading and by all means deserves five stars!
"Very interesting and intense! Profound!", March 11, 2004

The book "My Last Breath" by Matthew D. Dovel is a very interesting and
intense story of someone who had two near-death experiences which resulted
in him first going to heaven and then hell the other. This makes Dovel's
near-death experiences unique in that one was heavenly and the other was
hellish. Most NDEs involving a person experiencing both heaven and hell are
within the same NDE. It is refreshing to read the comparison between the two
destinations from someone who experienced both but at separate times. "My
Last Breath" is easy to read and thought-provoking at the same time. As it
is with many NDEs, many of his profound insights requires time to fully
digest as you reflect more and more on his wonderful message. Undoubtedly,
such insights require the rest of your life to fully appreciate. In essence,
"My Last Breath" is not only a fascinating read, it is also a guide on how
spirituality can be applied in everyday life.
"Wow! Very impactful", February 17, 2004
Reviewer: Louis Gallegos III (North Las Vegas, Nevada)
This book makes me think about my actions towards others and I can't seem to
get what I have read in this book out of my mind. It's very impactful and I
actually cried at the end. Life is very short and I've always want to make a
difference with mine in this world. And after reading this book I'm
convinced that my actions are important. We all matter and I believe Matthew
has been touched by God to relate this fact to us all. I also give this book
high marks for its relevance in today's world as we search for answers to
all the insane behavior taking place, and that there is a purpose for each
and everyone of us.
"A talent for writing and making his story alive!",

enlightenment".
"Very Profound," January 3, 2004
Reviewer: Mar Linda Perez, Grapevine, Texas
I just finished reading "My Last Breath" yesterday. I really enjoyed it, and
couldn't put it down. It had great flow and kept my interest. Most writers,
don't have flow and can't keep my interest. You're either very blessed in
that department or you worked very hard on revisions, or both!
I found your experiences, to be very profound. One of the most intriguing
things was your visit to Hell and description of it. I have never heard of
anyone ever visiting, coming back, much less writing about it. I too believe
that torture of ones soul has got to be the most painful of all. I have
great empathy, and could not imagine myself experiencing what you have.

"My Last Breath" was truly one of the most inspirational books I have ever
read. It definitely makes me think about my actions both positive and
negative towards others. After reading the book, I am comforted about my
feelings towards death. It was a very interesting book that examines both
heaven and hell and helps answer the question, "What happens after you die".
